Free Mountain Host tours at SilverStar

Every morning at 9:30, a local shows you the mountain for free.

If you only do one thing on your first day at SilverStar, make it this. Volunteer Mountain Hosts, all locals who ski here all the time, lead free guided tours every morning of the season. They’ll show you the layout, the best groomers, ski-in/ski-out routes, the photo spots and a few secret stashes.

Two kinds of tour

Ski and snowboard tours are an introduction to the whole mountain: how it fits together, favourite runs, the best grooming, ski-in/ski-out access and the best viewpoints.

Cross-country tours give you a scenic sampler of what the resort calls Canada’s largest daily groomed Nordic network, and point you to more terrain to explore on your own.

Hosts are also happy to suggest a spot for lunch or après, help with tickets and lessons, and tell you what’s on.

Sean is a Friday host

Sean Phillips has volunteered as a Friday Mountain Host at SilverStar for several years. It’s his favourite morning of the week: meeting visitors from all over, showing them his favourite runs and answering the “what’s it really like to live up here?” questions on the chairlift.

If you’re up on a Friday, come say hello at 9:20. And if the chairlift conversation turns to owning a place up here, Sean’s happy to pick it up over text any time.
